As vehicles become increasingly advanced, more and more models are equipped with sophisticated Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) designed to enhance safety, convenience, and driving precision. These systems rely on an intricate network of cameras, sensors, and radars that must be precisely calibrated to function correctly.
WHAT WE CAN DO FOR YOU?
A rising number of automotive components that help improve vehicle and driver safety are referred to as advanced driver assistance systems, or ADAS, for short. ADAS monitors duties including braking, speed, and steering and either automatically reacts or alerts the driver.
These systems, which employ a number of cameras to determine the location of the car and other road impediments, include but are not limited to Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, and Road Sign Detection. After some vehicle maintenance and repairs are completed, ADAS systems need to be re-calibrated in order to continue operating as intended.

What is ADAS?
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are intelligent systems integrated into vehicles to enhance driver safety and assist with driving tasks.
These systems use a combination of sensors, cameras, radars, and AI to interpret surroundings and provide real-time feedback or to control inputs. ADAS systems can perform functions such as automatic braking, lane-keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot detection, making driving safer and more convenient.
As an essential aspect of modern automotive safety, ADAS can be seen as a stepping stone towards fully autonomous vehicles. By assisting with tasks and monitoring surroundings, these systems reduce the risk of human error, which is a leading cause of traffic accidents worldwide.
Where is ADAS Yorkshire located?
ADAS Yorkshire is conveniently located in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, easily accessible for customers needing radar calibration services.
Why is radar calibration necessary for my car?
ADAS relies heavily on sensors, cameras, and radars that are meticulously positioned and calibrated to work accurately. Calibration ensures that these sensors are properly aligned and functioning as intended. If a vehicle undergoes repairs, such as a windscreen replacement or bodywork, the ADAS sensors and cameras may become misaligned, leading to inaccurate readings.
Failure to recalibrate ADAS after repairs or an accident can result in:
Incorrect functioning of features like lane departure warnings.
Increased braking distances with automatic emergency braking (AEB).
Reduced accuracy in adaptive cruise control and collision warnings.
Accurate calibration ensures optimal performance and guarantees the safety features work precisely, reducing the risk of accidents.
How long does a typical radar calibration take at ADAS Yorkshire?
What are the different types of ADAS Calibration?
There are two main types of ADAS calibration: static and dynamic.
Static ADAS calibration is where most vehicles will begin calibration. This method is done in a controlled environment such as a workshop. Specialized equipment and targets are used to adjust the sensors while the vehicle is stationary. Static calibration often applies to radar-based systems and requires precise alignment tools.
Dynamic Calibration: Many vehicles will require static, and then dynamic ADAS calibration to ensure full ADAS functionality, and some only dynamic calibration. This process requires the vehicle to be driven on the road. The system self-calibrates based on data gathered during real-world driving conditions. During dynamic calibration, the vehicle must be driven at specific speeds on predetermined types of roads to ensure the sensors can adapt to real-world variables.
Do I need an appointment for radar calibration?
Yes, it's recommended to schedule an appointment to ensure prompt service and reduce waiting times at our Dewsbury centre.
WHAT DO I NEED TO PREPARE BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT?
Before bringing your vehicle to us for this service, please ensure the following:
• The vehicle must be emptied of all tools, luggage, and any unnecessary items.
• The fuel tank must be at least three-quarters full prior to the procedure.
• If your vehicle has been involved in an accident or has been lowered, please ensure that a thorough wheel alignment has been completed beforehand.
• For lowered vehicles, there must be a minimum clearance of 20mm between the wheel arch and the wheel to allow for clamp installation. Without sufficient clearance, we will be unable to perform the service.
